In the Beginning

[Back]

Jane and I wanted to produce an independent documentary and were in the process of searching for ideas. In July of 2006, I picked up a Nashville Scene (Nashville's alternative newspaper)) and on the cover was a big-haired middle-aged blonde who looked like a country music singer turned gypsy with tremendous dangling earrings and bracelets that covered her arms - arms reaching up to the heavens. The headline read: "Prophets Rising - a new generation of prophets claims to hear the voice of the Lord. Here's what He's saying."

The article consisted of interviews with Sandy and several other modern day prophets who all claimed to have the prophetic gift of channeling the voice of the almighty, and best of all - each resided in the Nashville area.

When I finished reading the article I thought: "Oh my God (so to speak) this is our documentary! "I immediately called Jane and after she read the story, she agreed and was ready to get started.

So it began. I phoned Sandy's ministry to see if we could meet and talk to her about participating in the film.

Debbie, Sandy's assistant answered the phone, "Powerhouse Ministries". I introduced myself and told her about our company, GoldPitt Films, and that I had just finished reading the article in the Nashville Scene and how it ... how it ... what? How it ... "resonated" within me. How it ..."

Debbie interrupted me. "Loree, you know what that is you're feeling don't you?"

Silence. I pondered.

"No. No Debbie, I don't know."

She whispered, " It's God."

Who was I to argue with that?

Shortly after that phone call, two liberal women filmmakers entered the fundamental and supernatural world of the prophets.
